Best Health Care Online Video

People with cystic fibrosis (CF) are often diagnosed at birth and begin treatment while very young. Getting children familiar with the causes and impact of CF at an early age can help them become more engaged and compliant with their treatment routine. Having the words to talk about their CF can also help children advocate for themselves at school and outside the home.

CFSource is an educational website for caregivers and kids of all ages. The “Eugene the Gene” series was created especially for a younger audience, providing a fun, engaging way for children to learn about CF.

Eugene breaks down complex concepts, such as the genetic causes of CF, with simple language and friendly characters children will want to watch over and over again. Visual metaphors and analogies are used to help children make sense of big ideas. Videos are supported by downloadable pamphlets that illustrate the same concepts in a fun, comic book-style format.

By making learning about CF accessible to younger children, Eugene the Gene may help patients and caregivers feel more comfortable talking to their care team about their CF treatment.
