Best Non-profit Online Newsletter Campaign

The Natural Resources Defense Council sought to develop an organization-wide e-communication to meet the growing needs of their diverse set email lists. As many subscribers receive news or calls to action on specific issues, the organization sought to develop a communiqué that would reflect their work on a wider scale across all departments and issues. Through this effort, they sought to engage users to use the e-newsletter as a starting place to explore site content through engaging and thoughtful teasers, to donate with timely calls for contributions, and to take action on key issues.

Northridge Interactive developed a layout and design to provide a clear primary feature piece for each issue, highlights from the various NRDC Web properties, and to allow recurring themes for other smaller feature areas (such as Green Living) .

The e-newsletter also features a flexible design framework that allows the client to customize with color and imagery from issue to issue. This sample is from a fall edition where fall toned graphics were paired with cranberry design elements for a very seasonal look. Later issues into the winter leveraged arctic photography and blue hues for the design, while earlier summer editions used playful colors and imagery.

All in all, the architecture and design of this piece combine to provide NRDC constituents with a familiar but ever-changing landscape of engaging information.
